Question
How much bleed do I need for a poster?
Answer
Add 0.125 inches (one-eighth inch) of bleed on all four sides of your poster file. This extra area gets trimmed during production and prevents thin white edges if the cut shifts slightly.
- A 24 by 36 inch poster with proper bleed is set up as 24.25 by 36.25 inches in your design software.
- Extend any background color or image all the way to the bleed edge, not just to the trim line.
- Keep important text and logos at least 0.125 inches inside the trim so nothing gets clipped.
