Give Away a Notebook With a Cover That Moves
Tilt the cover and the printed art moves, flipping or gaining depth right there in your hand. The notebook belongs to our notebooks printing range and to the lenticular printing collection, next to the lenticular cards, bookmarks and magnets.
How the 3D Lenticular Cover Works
Two things make the cover move: the way the artwork is printed, and the plastic lens that sits over it.
Your images are first interlaced, sliced into fine vertical strips and woven together into a single printed sheet, so strips of image one sit between strips of image two. On its own that print looks like a blurred mess. The 31pt lens sheet laminated over it sorts it out: its surface is a row of tiny parallel lenses, each one narrow enough to sit over one set of strips and to bend light so that only those strips reach your eye from a given angle. Tilt the notebook and a different set of strips reaches you, as the 3D lenticular notebook video shows.
Lenticular art comes in three kinds, and it is worth knowing which one your cover is before artwork starts:
- Flip. Two images swap as the cover tilts, a logo becoming a tagline, a before becoming an after. The cleanest effect and the most legible, because each state is a full image in its own right.
- Depth. Layers of one scene are set at different apparent distances, so the foreground stands off the background and the cover reads as a shallow 3D space rather than as a flat print.
- Animation. A short sequence of frames plays across the tilt, a few steps of movement rather than a single swap. It needs the most frames and rewards simple, high-contrast artwork.
Fine type and thin hairlines fight the lens, because they can fall between the strips. Bold shapes, strong color separation and a clear focal point are what make a lenticular cover read across a room.
What Size Should You Pick
Match the size to how the notebook gets used. The 4.25" x 5.5" default is a pocket notebook, easy to carry and hand out at an event. Step up to 4" x 6" or 5.5" x 8.5" for an everyday jotter with more room per page. The 8.5" x 11" reads like a full letter-size pad for meetings and planning, and the lenticular cover always prints at the full size of the notebook.
What the Cover and Pages Are Made Of
The 31pt cover is thick enough to hold the lens that creates the effect and sturdy enough to protect the pages. Inside, the uncoated text paper takes pen and pencil cleanly, without the glare of a coated page.
Cover Artwork
A lenticular cover is not one flat file. Supply each state of the effect as its own full-size layer or file, two images for a flip, a layered scene for depth, a short frame sequence for an animation, all built at the finished cover size. Keep the type large and the key subject centered. Send the layers unflattened; interlacing happens here, and a flattened file cannot be taken apart again.
Build the layers on the blank 3D lenticular notebook template, drawn at the exact trim with the 1/8" bleed and safe margin marked. The one below is the 4.25" x 5.5" default.
How Much Do They Cost, and How Many Should You Order
3D lenticular notebooks cost about $15.27 each in a set of 50 and $9.83 each at 100. A run of 300 is $2,081.42 and 500 is $2,960.13. Drag the slider below to see each set total from 50 to 500 next to its per-notebook cost.
Wally makes the cover move
A 3D lenticular cover on a notebook people keep and use.

A set of 50 lenticular notebooks starts at $763.37, and the 31pt moving cover is what makes people pick them up. Behind it sit 50 blank uncoated pages, Wire-O bound to lie flat. Pick a size, upload your cover art, and Wally prints the batch in-house.
How Do 3D Lenticular Notebooks Compare to Other Notebooks
Pick the lenticular cover when the notebook has to get noticed. The Deluxe Spiral Notebook and Leather Journals cover the same everyday format without the moving cover, and the Embossed Notebooks trade motion for a textured cover. The chart below puts the lenticular notebook beside the spiral notebook and the leather journal on price, turnaround and rating.
How Are They Bound and Proofed
Wire-O binding runs down the long 5.5 inch side, so the notebook opens flat and pages turn a full 360 degrees. Send the file straight to production, or request a free online proof and check the layout before the press runs; files upload as PDF, JPG or PNG. The 22 business day schedule reflects the extra steps a lenticular cover needs, so this is not a piece to order the week of the event.
Who Uses 3D Lenticular Notebooks
They work as trade show handouts, conference welcome bag gifts and client leave-behinds. Gift shops and attraction counters can stock them as a novelty with real use. Artists and bands can run a numbered edition from 50, using artwork that already has two states, a character turning or a logo resolving.
