Kraft Hangtags

Important Artwork Notice!
If you have CMYK images on your kraft product, when printing only 4-color, (ie: 4/0, or 4/4), colors will appear different to when printed on a white paper. CMYK images cannot be printed "true to color" on kraft cardstock without using a 5th Color White as a backer to your CMYK images(s). If you are color critical, please make sure to select Optional White Ink (ie: 5/0, or 5/5 if your job has double sided printing).
In addition, if you do not use a 5th Color White, elements in your design that are white will be blank (hence show the brown paper). The paper stock will affect the way that colors appear due to the slightly translucent quality of the ink (you will see the brown paper through the ink, especially in lighter shades). Colors in the orange, yellow, brown spectrum will tend to not be visible as the brown color of the paper will not contrast enough with the ink. This occurs with light and pastel colors as well. Review the information at the link provided before ordering this product.

Tag Your Product With Something That Feels Natural
Custom kraft hang tags suit products sold as handmade. Kraft hangtags start at $57.96 for 100, rated 4.4 out of 5 across 5 reviews. Instead of a bright white coated card, the stock is warm brown 18pt kraft, left uncoated, made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper. String it onto a shirt, tie it to a candle jar, or drop it into a shipped order.
The recycled brown stock tells shoppers something about the product, the uncoated surface takes a stamp or a pencil note, and every tag ships pre-drilled and ready to string. Every other tag style sits on hang tags printing; the choices for this one follow below.
A candle maker testing a new scent tags 100 jars; an apparel line tagging every size of a season orders 1,000, at about 21 cents a tag. The tiers below list the total for each quantity and what the next step saves.
What Are Kraft Hangtags
Kraft hangtags are natural brown tags printed full color on a single 18pt Kraft Uncoated Cover stock made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper, in 8 sizes from a narrow 1.5" x 3.5" up to 2.125" x 3.375". They suit products where a coated white tag would feel wrong: apparel tags, price tags, gift tags, product and packaging tags, and favor tags for weddings and events. The recycled, uncoated paper looks eco and handmade. If you want a heavier version of the same look, the Ultra Thick Kraft Hangtags carry the idea onto a chunkier stock, and the recycled story pairs naturally with our green printing program.
What Size Should a Kraft Hangtag Be
Pick the size by the product. The default 1.5" x 3.5" is the standard narrow hang tag for apparel and bottles. A 1.75" x 3.5" adds a little width, a 2" x 2" goes square, and a 2" x 3" gives room for a short story or a price and care note. The run tops out at 2.125" x 3.375", and if none of the presets fits, you can set a custom size up to 2" x 6" made to order. Every tag ships pre-drilled with a single 1/8" hole, and you pick where it drills, including top center, so it hangs the way you want. The specs panel below lists the 8 sizes and the drilling and proofing options in the groups you see when you order. For a die-cut shape instead of a straight rectangle, the Die-Cut Hangtags open that up.
Hole Drilling and String Options
Every tag is drilled in production with a single 1/8" hole, and you choose where it goes. There are two positions.
- Top Center. The standard. The tag hangs straight down off a button, a handle or a hook, which is what you want on a shirt, a tote or a candle jar.
- Left Side Middle. The tag hangs sideways off a loop or a bottle neck and reads across, which suits a wide layout or a tag tied flat against packaging.
Tags arrive drilled but unstrung, so the cord is yours to pick and the tags ship flat rather than tangled. A 1/8" hole is roughly 3mm across, so a thin bakers twine or a fine hemp cord passes through doubled and knots without forcing, and a light round elastic loop passes through single. Anything thicker than that needs a wider hole than this stock is drilled for.
How Do You Print on Brown Kraft
Plain CMYK ink goes translucent on kraft, so 4OVER4 offers a 5/0 setup that lays down white ink first and color on top, which is how you get a crisp white logo or a bright, true color on a brown tag. For a raw, stamped look, standard 4/0 full color on the front with a blank back keeps it simple and natural. A 4/4 setup prints full color front and back. There is one stock here, 18pt Kraft Uncoated Cover, so the feel stays consistent every time.
Not sure your file will translate onto brown? Order a free online proof and check exactly how the color lands before the full run prints. It is the simplest way to avoid a surprise on a stock that behaves differently from white paper.
Is kraft board recyclable
The stock is 18pt Kraft Uncoated Cover made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper, so the board has already been through a recycling stream once before it becomes a tag. It is uncoated on both faces, with no plastic film, no laminate and no gloss layer to separate out, which is what usually keeps a printed card out of a paper stream.
That means an uncoated kraft tag goes in with paper and card the way an unlaminated envelope or a cardboard sleeve does, subject to whatever your local program accepts. Two practical notes: pull the string out first if you used a synthetic cord, since that is the part that is not paper, and remember that a heavy ink layer over the whole face gives a recycler more to strip than a design that lets the brown board show through.
How Much Do Kraft Hangtags Cost
Kraft hangtags start at $57.96 per 100, about 58 cents a tag, and the per-tag price keeps dropping as the quantity climbs toward 1,000, so the per-tag price comes down to the size of the run. A run of 250 is $80.45, 500 is $108.84, and 1,000 tags run $207.39, which works out to about 21 cents each. Set the slider below to the products you are tagging to see the total and the per-tag cost.
Wally ties a tag that says natural without a word
Why a stack of recycled kraft tags does the branding for you.

A hundred kraft hangtags costs $57.96, printed on 18pt paper made from 100% recycled fiber. The warm brown stock signals eco and handmade before anyone reads it. Add white ink so your logo pops, pick a size, and Wally drills the hole so every tag is ready to string.
Kraft hang tags for clothing and handmade goods
Kraft is the tag people reach for when the product is meant to read as made rather than manufactured, which is why it lands on apparel rails, candle jars, soap bars, market stalls and small batch food.
On clothing it carries the size, the fibre content, the care symbols and the price, strung through the button placket or a belt loop. On handmade goods it carries the batch, the maker and the care note, and the uncoated face takes a pen, so a scent, a date or a price can be written on by hand at a market.
For a shape built specifically for apparel, see hang tags for clothing. If you need room for care instructions on the inside, see folded hang tags, and for the bright white coated version of the same tag, see paper hang tags.
How Do Kraft Hangtags Compare to the Rest of the Range
Kraft hangtags are the natural, recycled pick. For a thicker kraft, a die-cut shape, or the plain standard tag, the chart below sets them beside their closest siblings with the starting price of each. The Standard Hang Tags are the baseline white version if the brown stock is not the look you want.
How Fast Can You Get Kraft Hangtags
Kraft hangtags print on a 5 business day standard turnaround, and when a launch or a market date sneaks up you can move that to a 2 business day rush. The rush buys back time for a set amount on top of the base price, so you only pay for speed when you actually need it. You pick the turnaround in the configurator, and every order is backed by 4OVER4's guarantees, so you are not gambling on the date.

How to Order Kraft Hang Tags in Five Steps
- Pick the size. The default 1.5" x 3.5" suits apparel and bottles, 2" x 2" goes square, 2" x 3" holds a short story and a price, and a custom size runs up to 2" x 6".
- Choose the ink. 4/0 prints full color on the front with a blank back, 4/4 prints both sides, and the 5/0 setup lays white ink down first so a white logo or a bright color shows on the brown board.
- Set the hole. Every tag is drilled with a single 1/8" hole. Top Center hangs the tag straight down, Left Side Middle hangs it sideways off a bottle neck.
- Proof it. Take the free online proof to see how the color lands on kraft before the run, since ink reads differently on brown than on white.
- Pick the turnaround. Standard is 5 business days, and a 2 business day rush covers a market or a launch date.
A run of 100 starts at $57.96, 250 is $80.45, 500 is $108.84 and 1,000 is $207.39, about 21 cents a tag.
Kraft Hangtags: Frequently Asked Questions
Do the tags come with the hole already drilled?
Yes. Hole drilling is part of the build: a single 1/8" hole, and you pick the drilling position on the tag. They arrive ready to string onto a product.
What sizes can I get?
Eight sizes, from a narrow 1.5" x 3.5" up to 2.125" x 3.375", plus a custom size up to 2" x 6" made to order.
What does a small batch cost?
100 tags start at $57.96, about $0.58 each, sliding to roughly $0.21 each as the run climbs to 1,000.
Is the brown color printed on?
No. The stock is 18pt Kraft Uncoated Cover made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper, so the warm brown and the fiber texture are the paper itself.
How do I get bright colors to show on kraft?
A CMYK plus white setup is available, which lays white down first so clean whites and bright colors stand out against the brown. Full color prints on the front, with a blank or printed back.
How fast can hangtags ship?
Standard turnaround is 5 business days, with a 2 business day rush when a product launch or a market date is close. Each tag ships drilled with a single 1/8 inch hole, so it can be strung onto a shirt or tied to a candle jar as soon as it arrives.
Do you sell kraft hang tags wholesale?
The pricing ladder does the wholesale job. A run of 100 starts at $57.96, about 58 cents a tag, and 1,000 tags run $207.39, about 21 cents each, with the per tag price sliding at every step between. Every tier prints on the same 18pt recycled kraft board with the hole drilled, so a bulk order for a product line matches the sample.
Can I write on a kraft hang tag by hand?
Yes. The 18pt Kraft Uncoated Cover has no coating or laminate, so the face takes a pen, a pencil or a rubber stamp. Makers use that to add a scent, a batch date or a price at a market, on top of the printed design. Leave a blank panel in the artwork where the handwriting goes.
