Question
What are your recommended file sizes for images and photos?
Answer
The key number for images is resolution at final size, not file weight. Everything is measured at the size the image actually prints.
- Files need a resolution of 300 dpi at the final size.
- If a photo prints edge to edge, use 300 dpi at the bleed size.
- If you do not have access to professional or Adobe programs, you can still prepare files at the right resolution with simpler tools, as long as you hit 300 dpi at print size.
- Avoid enlarging small images, which drops their effective dpi.
Aim for 300 dpi at the placed size and the file size will take care of itself.
