Question
How can I send you a file with my fonts?
Answer
To make sure your type prints exactly as designed, your fonts need to travel with the file. The two reliable ways to do that are outlining the fonts or packaging them with the document, and either approach prevents a font from being substituted on our end.
- Outline the fonts: in Illustrator, convert type to outlines so the text becomes vector shapes that need no font.
- Embed in the PDF: exporting a print-ready PDF with fonts embedded carries the type inside the file.
- Package from InDesign: File and Package gathers the document, fonts, and links into one folder to send.
- Avoid sending loose text files: a Word or open design file without its fonts is where substitution happens.
