What is overprinting?

Overprinting prints one ink directly on top of another instead of knocking out the area beneath it. Used on purpose it creates useful effects and cleaner trapping, but applied by accident it can make objects disappear in the final print.

• The top ink layers over the color below rather than replacing it.
• Used deliberately for trapping and certain blended effects.
• A common accident is a white or light object set to overprint, which then vanishes.
• Check overprint settings in preflight so nothing drops out unexpectedly.
