Question
What is a spot color?
Answer
A spot color is a single premixed ink printed as its own layer, rather than being simulated from tiny CMYK dots. Because the ink is mixed to an exact shade before printing, spot colors deliver crisp, perfectly uniform coverage and precise color matching.
- Often specified as a Pantone number for consistency across runs.
- Gives smooth, solid coverage with no visible dot pattern.
- The go-to choice for exact logo and brand colors.
- Includes special effects like metallic and fluorescent inks that process color cannot match.
