Question
What does 4/0 and 4/4 mean in printing?
Answer
These numbers describe how many ink colors print on each side of a piece. In full-color CMYK printing the "4" stands for four-color process, and the two numbers separated by a slash tell you the front and the back.
| Notation | Front | Back | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4/0 | Full color | Blank | Full-color printing on one side only |
| 4/4 | Full color | Full color | Full-color printing on both sides |
Because 4/4 uses ink on both sides, it costs more than 4/0. When you request a quote, clarify which option you need so the price and setup match your design.
