Question
What color format should my print files be in?
Answer
All print files must be in CMYK color mode, because presses print with cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks. There is no required color profile preference, but files should be converted before you submit them.
- Convert any RGB artwork to CMYK in your design program before exporting.
- Bright RGB blues, greens, and neons can shift once converted, so check them after the switch.
- Export as a print-ready PDF whenever possible to lock in the color mode.
- If part of a placed image is still RGB, it will be converted during processing, which can change its appearance.
Handling the conversion yourself lets you preview and adjust colors instead of being surprised by an automatic conversion.
