What bleed size should I use for my print files?

Any artwork that runs to the edge needs bleed so nothing gets trimmed into a white line. The standard is 1/8 inch (0.125") on every side, but because requirements can differ by product, always check the exact numbers for what you are ordering.

• Add 0.125" of bleed wherever color or images reach the edge of the piece, and run backgrounds and photos off the edge into the bleed rather than stopping at the trim line.
• Keep text, logos, and other important elements inside the safe margin, away from the cut.
• Export your PDF with the bleed area intact rather than cropping to trim.
• Cutting is never perfectly precise, so bleed is your insurance that small trimming shifts do not leave thin white slivers along the edges.
• A design that sits fully inside a white border does not require bleed.
