Question

Should I provide booklet files as individual pages or as facing spreads?

Answer

For booklet printing, files are almost always requested as single pages in reading order rather than as reader spreads. Supplying single pages lets the printer impose them correctly for folding and binding.

  • Single pages, in order: page 1, 2, 3, and so on, not paired spreads.
  • Why not spreads: imposition software pairs the correct pages for the press based on your page count and binding, so pre-built spreads can cause errors.
  • Export: save a print-ready PDF with every page in sequence.

If you are unsure, start from the booklet template for your product or check with support before submitting.
