What is embossing and debossing?

Embossing and debossing both use a metal die to press a design into paper, but in opposite directions. Embossing raises the image above the surface, while debossing presses it below the surface.

• Embossing: the process of creating a raised image by stamping the paper with a die.
• Debossing: the reverse, pressing the design down into the paper to create a recessed, indented image.
• Ink optional: both can be done blind (no ink) for a subtle, tactile effect, or paired with foil or color.
• Good for: logos, monograms, and text on business cards, invitations, and folders.
