Question
What's the standard bleed size for most print products?
Answer
For most print products the standard bleed is 0.125 inches, or one eighth of an inch, on all four sides. Bleed is the extra artwork that extends past the trim line so no white edges appear after cutting.
- 0.125 in (1/8 in) bleed on every side covers business cards, postcards, flyers, and most small-format work.
- Large-format items such as banners may need 0.25 in or more.
- Extend any background color or image all the way into the bleed area.
- Always check the product specifications before setting up your file, since a few products differ.
| Product type | Typical bleed |
|---|---|
| Small format (cards, flyers, postcards) | 0.125 in per side |
| Large format (banners) | 0.25 in or more |
