How should I set up my letterhead file for printing?

A letterhead file prints predictably when it is built to the basics every commercial press expects. Get the color mode, resolution, bleed, and safe margins right and the sheet comes back looking exactly like your screen.
- Color mode: CMYK for accurate on-press color.
- Resolution: 300 DPI for any logos or images.
- Bleed: add 0.125 inch on all sides if color or art runs to the edge.
- Safe zone: keep text and key elements at least 0.25 inch inside the trim.
- Fonts: outline or embed them so nothing reflows or substitutes.
