Question
How do I set up my design file for spot UV?
Answer
Spot UV is applied from a separate mask layer that marks exactly where the glossy coating lands, so that mask needs to be clean and precise.
- Create a separate UV mask layer in your file.
- Fill the areas you want coated with solid black (100% K).
- Leave everything else on the mask empty so no coating lands there.
- Keep the mask on its own layer, above your CMYK artwork.
- Start from a template with the mask layer already built in, and avoid hairline details that are hard to coat cleanly.
