Question
What are bleed lines and safe zones on business card templates?
Answer
On a business card template, the bleed line and safe zone are two guides that keep your design from being cut wrong. The bleed marks the cutting area, and the safe zone marks where your important content should stay.
- Bleed line: the edge of the cutting area. Extend backgrounds and images fully to it so there are no white borders after trimming.
- Safe zone: everything inside the bleed that will not be cut. Keep text, logos, and key details here.
- Trimmed area: anything outside the bleed is cut away during finishing.
Cards print edge to edge, so designs that run to the bleed will not have a white border. If you want a border, keep it well inside the safe zone so a slight trim shift does not make it uneven.
