Question

What is the safe zone (safe margin)?

Answer

The safe zone, also called the safe margin, is the area inside the trim line, usually about 1/8 inch, where you keep all important content. Anything within it is protected even if the cut shifts slightly during finishing.

  • What goes here: text, logos, contact details, and any element you cannot afford to lose.
  • Why it exists: trimming can move a hair in either direction, and the safe zone absorbs that variation.
  • Rule of thumb: stay at least 1/8" in from the trim line with critical content.

Keeping content inside the safe zone is the simplest way to guarantee nothing important gets clipped at the edge.
