Question

What file dimensions should I use for a standard business card?

Answer

Build your file at the full bleed size so nothing important gets trimmed off. For a standard 3.5 x 2 inch card, that means a document of 3.75 x 2.25 inches, which adds an eighth of an inch of bleed on every edge.

  • Document size: 3.75 x 2.25 in (includes 0.125 in bleed all around)
  • Trim size: 3.5 x 2 in (the final card)
  • Safe zone: keep text and logos at least 0.125 in inside the trim line
  • Resolution: 300 DPI so edges and small type stay crisp
  • Color mode: CMYK, not RGB, so screen colors match the press
  • Format: export a print-ready PDF with fonts embedded
