Question
What DPI should I use for printing business cards?
Answer
Use 300 DPI at the final print size for business cards. People hold cards close to their face, so anything below that shows visible softness or pixelation in photos and fine details.
- Target resolution: 300 DPI at 100 percent of print size.
- Standard 3.5" x 2" card: your source art should be at least 1,050 x 600 pixels before bleed.
- With bleed (0.125" all sides): build to about 1,125 x 675 pixels so the trim has room.
- Watch scaling: enlarging a small image to fit will not add real detail, so start with high-resolution artwork.
| Element | Pixels at 300 DPI |
|---|---|
| Trim size (3.5" x 2") | 1,050 x 600 |
| With bleed (3.75" x 2.25") | 1,125 x 675 |
