Do I need to add bleed to my flyer design?
Answer
You need bleed whenever any color or image runs to the edge of the flyer. Bleed is extra artwork extending past the trim line, and it exists because cutting is never pixel-perfect. Without it, a slight shift during trimming can leave thin white edges. Add 0.125" on all four sides and keep critical content safely inside.
- Add bleed if backgrounds or images touch the edge of the design, extending them fully into the bleed area.
- Amount: 0.125" of bleed on all four sides.
- Safety margin: keep text and logos at least 0.125" inside the trim line.
- Why: it prevents white slivers and prevents important elements from being cut off.
- Export: save a press-ready PDF at the trim size plus bleed.
