Question
How long does it take for an ACH payment to be processed and reach my account?
Answer
An ACH transfer is an electronic bank-to-bank payment, so it clears on the banking network's batch schedule rather than instantly. Most transfers take a few business days from the day they are started to when the money reaches the account.
| Stage | Typical timing |
|---|---|
| Initiation to processing | Same or next business day |
| Processing to funds available | 1 to 3 business days |
| Full settlement to the recipient bank | Up to 4 to 5 business days in some cases |
| Weekends and bank holidays | Not counted as business days |
- Timing depends on both banks and any daily cutoff for same-day processing.
- A transfer started after the cutoff, or on a weekend, begins on the next business day.
- Standard ACH is slower than same-day ACH or a card charge, which post much faster.
- For a specific transfer, your own bank can confirm the exact posting date.
