Should I use CMYK or RGB for my print file setup?
Answer
Always set up print files in CMYK. RGB is a screen color mode, and if you send an RGB file to press, the colors get converted and usually shift, most often becoming duller than they looked on your monitor.
- CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) is the ink mode used by printing presses
- RGB (red, green, blue) is built for backlit screens, not paper
- Convert to CMYK early in your design process, not as a last step
- Pay special attention to bright blues, greens, and neons, which shift the most
Working in CMYK from the start means the colors you approve on screen are much closer to what comes off the press, with no surprises after printing.
