Question

Where should I place the return address and recipient address on a postcard template?

Answer

Standard postcard templates leave a defined area for mailing information. Put the recipient details in the marked address block so scanners and carriers can read them, and place your return address in a clear, light part of the layout.

  • Recipient address: goes inside the designated address box on the mailing side, typically the lower right.
  • Return address: can sit in any open, light area of the card, such as the top left corner or the back; no special background panel is needed, just enough contrast to stay readable.
  • Postage or indicia: belongs in the upper right, above the address block.
  • Background: keep addresses over white or a light color so the text stays legible.
  • Keep the address area free of graphics, dark colors, and barcodes, and leave the required clear zone around the address block for postal barcodes.
  • Keep both addresses out of the bleed and away from the trim edge, and check your template and postal guidelines so the piece qualifies for the rate you expect.
