Question

Do bulk orders have different pricing than smaller quantities?

Answer

Yes. Pricing changes with order volume, and the per-unit cost typically falls as the quantity climbs because fixed setup costs are spread across more pieces. Most of the cost of a print run is in setup (file prep, press makeready, cutting), and once that work is done, each additional piece adds mostly just material and a little press time. To see the difference for your project, request quotes at a few different quantities and compare the per-unit prices.

  • Larger runs generally lower the cost per piece, while the total still rises with volume.
  • Fixed setup and tooling costs are divided over more units at higher volumes.
  • The biggest per-unit savings usually appear in the jump from small runs to mid-size runs (for example 1,000 up to 2,500 or 5,000), then the curve flattens toward the lowest per-piece cost around 10,000 to 20,000.
  • Jobs with extra hand labor, such as folding or special finishes, benefit even more from larger runs because that labor gets more efficient at volume.
  • Tier thresholds can mean a bigger quantity costs little more in total.
  • Compare per-unit pricing across quantities before deciding on your run size.

One larger run almost always costs less per piece than splitting the same total across several small runs.
