Question
What's the best paper thickness for door hangers?
Answer
Door hangers need enough rigidity to hold their shape on a doorknob without curling or tearing at the die-cut hole. Heavier stock also stands up better to weather.
| Stock / coating | Why |
|---|---|
| 14pt cardstock | The practical minimum to hold shape on a knob |
| 16pt cardstock | Extra rigidity that helps in wind |
| UV or aqueous coating | Protects against rain and sun on outdoor placements |
- Go with 16pt if hangers will sit outside for a while or face breezy conditions.
- Add a protective coating any time hangers will be exposed to moisture or direct sunlight.
