Question
What paper thickness works best for embossing printing?
Answer
Thicker stocks give the most dramatic embossed results, because a heavier sheet has the body to hold a deep, crisp raised impression without cracking. As a rule, use 16pt and above.
- 16pt is the recommended minimum for a clean emboss.
- 32pt, roughly three times the thickness of a standard business card, holds the raised impression beautifully and feels substantial in hand.
- The heavier the stock, the more pronounced and durable the embossed effect.
| Stock thickness | Embossing result |
|---|---|
| 16pt and up | Recommended minimum, clean impression |
| 32pt | Deep, dramatic relief with a premium feel |
