Question
Do paper size specifications change based on the material I choose?
Answer
The finished dimensions for a given product size stay the same no matter the material, but the way you set up your file can vary from one substrate to another.
- Print size stays constant: a 4x6 stays 4x6 whether it is coated, uncoated, or specialty stock
- Metallic stocks may need adjusted CMYK values so colors reproduce accurately over the shimmer
- Canvas and fabric can call for different resolution settings than smooth paper
- Bleed and safe zone requirements can differ slightly by product
The safest habit is to download the template and read the spec sheet for the exact material you are ordering, so your file is built correctly from the start.
