Question
What file setup is needed for UV spot printing on cards?
Answer
UV spot printing on cards uses a separate layer for the raised, glossy coating, so the artwork has to be split into individual files rather than sent as one flattened design. Each side needs both its color layer and its own UV layer.
- Front (the full-color artwork for the front)
- Front UV (a layer marking exactly where the spot UV should sit on the front)
- Back (the full-color artwork for the back)
- Back UV (the spot UV layer for the back)
| File | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Front / Back | Printed color image |
| Front UV / Back UV | Placement of the raised gloss coating |
