Question

Do I need to include bleed in my print file for a car magnet?

Answer

Yes, if any part of your design runs to the edge. Bleed is extra artwork that extends past the trim line so that when the magnet is cut, there is no thin white border where the blade lands slightly off. For car magnets, add 0.25" of bleed on all four sides.

  • Bleed: extend background colors and images 0.25" beyond the final size.
  • Safe zone: keep important text and logos at least 0.125" inside the trim line so nothing is cut off.
  • No edge bleed: if your design sits on a solid margin and nothing touches the edge, bleed is not strictly required, but adding it is still safe.

Building bleed into the file up front avoids reprints caused by white slivers along the edges.
