Free blank templatesWhy a gift certificate needs a number
A certificate is money you have already been paid for. Numbering each one is how you know which have been sold and which have been redeemed, and it is what stops the same certificate being used twice from a photocopy.
Set the starting number to carry on from your last batch and nothing is ever issued twice.
What the small print should say
The line along the bottom is where the terms go: how long it is valid, whether it can be exchanged for cash, whether the balance carries over. Rules on expiry differ by state and this tool gives no legal advice, so write what applies to you.
