What the Standard Flyers configurator says about size
- Sizes
- The configurator offers 9 sizes for this product. Every one of them is listed above, exactly as the configurator lists it.
- Custom size
- This product takes a custom size. The configurator accepts 4 to 11 in on the width and 5.5 to 25.5 in on the height, in steps of 0.1 in.
- Press limits
- On top of the product limits the press bounds apply: the shorter side must be 1.5 to 22 in and the longer side 1.5 to 28 in. The configurator turns the size the same way round before it checks, so 11 x 2.5 and 2.5 x 11 are the same size to it.
- If it is out of range
- This custom size is currently not available for this product. Please select a different combination (switch between width and height values) or try selecting another product from the Print Products Menu. Contact us if you have a Custom Order.

Every flyer size we print, drawn with its bleed and safe margin, and the real pixel count at 300 DPI.
The standard flyer is 8.5 x 11 inches, US Letter. Half letter at 5.5 x 8.5 and quarter letter at 4.25 x 5.5 are the next two, and all three print at 300 DPI with 1/8 in of bleed.
The standard flyer size
8.5 x 11 in, US Letter, is the standard flyer. It is the size everyone's printer, binder and display stand expects, and it is the cheapest to produce because it is the sheet the press is already cut to.
Half letter at 5.5 x 8.5 in is the next most common. You get two from one sheet, so it is close to half the price, and it is the right size for a handout at a market stall or a door drop.
Picking by where it will be
Handed out in the street or slipped under a door: 5.5 x 8.5 in or 4.25 x 5.5 in. Small enough to carry a thousand, big enough to read.
On a counter or in a rack: 4 x 9 in is the rack card size and fits the holder. Anything wider falls out.
On a wall or a noticeboard: 8.5 x 11 in or 11 x 17 in. At 11 x 17 in you are into poster territory and should check it reads from across the room.
Setting the file up
Flyers print at 300 DPI. An 8.5 x 11 in flyer with bleed is an 8.75 x 11.25 in document, which is 2625 x 3375 pixels.
Keep the bleed at 0.125 in on every edge and the text 0.125 in inside the trim. If the flyer will be folded, use the brochure and fold calculator instead, because folded panels are not simply the sheet divided by the number of panels.
Common questions
Questions about flyer size
What is the standard flyer size?
8.5 x 11 inches, US Letter. Half-letter at 5.5 x 8.5 inches and quarter-letter at 4.25 x 5.5 inches are the two other common flyer sizes.
What flyer sizes can I order?
4.25 x 5.5, 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 5.5 x 8.5, 8.5 x 11, 8.5 x 14 and 11 x 17 inches are the standard flyer sizes on the 4OVER4 press.
What size flyer file do I need with bleed?
Add 0.125 inches to each edge. An 8.5 x 11 in flyer becomes an 8.75 x 11.25 in document, and a 5.5 x 8.5 in flyer becomes 5.75 x 8.75 in.
What is a DL flyer size?
99 x 210 mm, which is 3.9 x 8.3 inches. It is the European standard for a flyer that fits a DL envelope, and it is what you get by folding an A4 sheet in three.
What resolution should a flyer be?
300 DPI at the finished size. An 8.5 x 11 in flyer with bleed at 300 DPI is 2625 x 3375 pixels. Below 300 DPI, small type starts to look soft.
