Envelope minus card equals clearance, and clearance is the whole game. An A2 envelope is 4.375 by 5.75 inches against a 4.25 by 5.5 card, so you get an eighth of an inch across the width and a quarter inch up the height. An A7 is 5.25 by 7.25 against a 5 by 7, a quarter inch each way.
