File Setup That Survives a Rush Order

Build the file this way and it goes straight through. Set the document at the finished trim size and extend background art 0.125 inch past every edge, so the guillotine always cuts through image rather than through white. Hold live text, logos, and anything that must not be clipped 0.125 inch inside the trim. Work in CMYK and export at 300 ppi at final size, because an RGB file gets converted somewhere and you would rather it happened on your screen than on ours. Outline or embed the fonts. Flatten transparency before export.
Two habits that save reprints. Skip thin frames and borders: trim varies by roughly a sixteenth of an inch across a stack, which nobody notices on a full bleed photo and everybody notices on a 2 point border that ends up thicker on one side.
