Building a Set Where the Pieces Actually Fit
A set looks like a set for two reasons: the sizes nest, and the paper feels the same in the hand. Sizes first, because that is where orders go wrong.

Read the second and third columns together. The envelope is never the same size as the card. An A2 sleeve runs an eighth of an inch wider and a quarter of an inch taller than the 4.25 by 5.5 card, and an A7 adds a quarter inch on both dimensions. That gap is what lets a card go in without buckling, and it is the reason a card cut to the exact envelope measurement will not fit. Then the paper. Flat and folded notecards ship with matching white wove envelopes, which are smooth. That is fine if your notecards are on a smooth stock too. It falls apart if your letterhead is on 28# Royal Linen and your envelopes are wove, because linen and wove are obviously different the second somebody holds both. If the whole set has to match by feel, order the envelopes on the same stock from printed envelopes, which carry the identical five papers the letterheads do.
Paper for Something Somebody Writes On
Notice what is missing from the letterhead paper list: gloss. All five letterhead stocks are uncoated, and that is a deliberate constraint rather than a gap in the range. A coated sheet beads a ballpoint and drags a fountain pen, and toner sits on top of the coating instead of bonding into the fibre, so an office laser can scuff it. Anything you sign, annotate or run through your own printer wants an uncoated surface.

The one texture caveat worth knowing before you order 500 sheets: deep linen makes very small toner type look slightly broken up, because the toner sits across the peaks and skips the valleys. It is invisible at 11 point and above and it is visible on a 6 point legal line. If your header has fine print in it, print a single sheet first, or keep the fine print off the letterhead entirely.
Notecards have far more room to play, with roughly twenty materials including recycled, kraft and cream shades, soft touch, and metallic pearl in ice, champagne, silver and gold. Just remember which side gets written on. A soft touch or metallic front with an uncoated back is a good combination. Two things fall out of that table. The first is the folded premium: at the same finished 4.25 by 5.5 inches, a folded card costs roughly double a flat one, because you are printing twice the paper and paying for a scoring pass. That is money well spent when somebody writes inside and wasted when the card only carries a printed line. The second is turnaround. Envelopes take seven business days against three for flat notecards, so if the set has to arrive together, the envelopes set the schedule and they should be the first thing you order.

Usually, and the paper choice decides it. All five letterhead stocks are uncoated, which is what makes them safe for both a home inkjet and an office laser. The two things that cause trouble are texture and weight: a deep linen finish can make small toner type look slightly broken up, and heavier sheets feed better from a rear tray than from a cassette. Run one sheet through before you print thirty. If the letter is going to be typed rather than handwritten anyway, ask us to print the full page and skip the second pass entirely.
