What stock weight should I use for a heavily folded card (multiple folds)?

When a piece has multiple folds, stock weight matters more than almost any other choice. Thick cover-weight cards resist folding and can crack along the score, while lighter text-weight papers bend cleanly and hold up through several folds.

• Multiple folds: choose a lighter text-weight stock so the folds lie flat and the surface does not crack.
• Single fold or scored pieces: a heavier cover stock works well and feels more substantial.
• Cracking risk: heavier and coated stocks crack more easily on a fold, so scoring becomes important as weight goes up.

If you are unsure which weight suits your fold layout, ask your printer to recommend a stock and to score the piece before folding. Requesting a sample of the stock at your fold can save a costly reprint.
