For folded cards, both the stock and the finishing decide whether the crease stays clean. Rigid or heavily laminated plastic stocks resist folding and tend to crack along the fold, so an uncoated cardstock is the safer choice because it scores and folds cleanly.

• Pick an uncoated cover stock. Its fibers flex at the fold instead of splitting.
• Ask for a score before the fold on any stock 14pt or heavier so the crease is crisp.
