Question

What cardstock is best for folded cards that won't crack?

Answer

For folded cards, both the stock and the finishing decide whether the crease stays clean. Rigid or heavily laminated plastic stocks resist folding and tend to crack along the fold, so an uncoated cardstock is the safer choice because it scores and folds cleanly.

  • Pick an uncoated cover stock. Its fibers flex at the fold instead of splitting.
  • Ask for a score before the fold on any stock 14pt or heavier so the crease is crisp.
  • Avoid rigid plastic and thick laminated stocks for pieces that must fold flat.
  • Add your score and fold instructions to the order so the crease lands exactly where you want it.
  • If you are unsure, ask our support team for a recommendation before printing.
