Question
What is EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) and what are the requirements?
Answer
EDDM, or Every Door Direct Mail, is a USPS program that lets you mail to every address along chosen postal routes without buying or maintaining a mailing list, which makes it a low-cost way to blanket a local area.
- No list needed: you select carrier routes and the mail reaches every address on them.
- Size and stock rules: pieces must meet USPS format requirements and be larger than a standard letter-size mail piece.
- Bundled by route: pieces are banded and sorted by carrier route for the post office.
- EDDM postage: postage is paid at the discounted EDDM rate rather than standard mail rates.
| Requirement | Note |
|---|---|
| Size | Larger than a standard letter, oversized formats are common |
| Targeting | By postal carrier route, not by individual name |
| Postage | Paid at EDDM Retail or business-mail rates |
