What is a Right Angle or French Fold?

A right angle fold, also called a French fold, is made by folding a sheet in half one way and then folding it in half again at a 90 degree angle to the first fold. The two folds cross at right angles, which is where the name comes from.

• Two perpendicular folds: the second fold runs at a right angle to the first.
• Result: a compact multi-panel piece, often eight panels, that unfolds into one large sheet.
• Good for: maps, foldout posters, and detailed brochures with a big reveal.
