Photo Size and Resolution

Photo sharpness in print comes down to resolution at the size the photo actually prints. The rule is simple and applies to every image in your file.

• Make sure all photos are 300 dpi at the actual print size.
• If a photo prints edge to edge, use 300 dpi at the bleed size instead.
• Check resolution at the final placed size, not the size of the original file on its own.
• Enlarging a small photo to fill a large area lowers its effective dpi and softens the print.

When a photo will cover the whole piece, size it to the bleed dimensions at 300 dpi from the start.
