Question
Should I design my logo in CMYK or RGB?
Answer
If print is your primary use, design in CMYK from the start. Converting RGB to CMYK after the fact often shifts colors in ways you did not expect, with bright screen tones printing duller than intended.
- Print-first brands: build the logo in CMYK so what you see matches what the press can actually reproduce.
- Digital-first brands: RGB is fine, but plan a controlled CMYK conversion before any printed run.
- Both worlds: define your colors in Pantone, then create matched CMYK and RGB conversions from those Pantone values so every channel stays on-brand.
| Color mode | Best for |
|---|---|
| CMYK | Printed materials, signage, packaging |
| RGB | Web, screens, digital ads |
| Pantone (PMS) | Master reference for consistent conversions |
