Question

How do I check if my file is in CMYK or RGB?

Answer

Both Photoshop and Illustrator show the color mode right in the interface, so it only takes a second to confirm.

  • Photoshop: look at the document title bar, where the mode appears in parentheses.
  • Illustrator: check File then Document Color Mode.
  • InDesign: the mode is set per document and applied at export.

For anything headed to print, keep the file in CMYK. Save RGB for screens and digital assets.
