Is matte printing more expensive than glossy?
Answer
In most cases, no. Standard matte and gloss finishes usually cost the same at equal paper weight, because both are applied the same way during coating. Paper thickness, quantity and size move the price far more than the coating does, so you can choose by look.
- Base matte and base gloss: typically priced the same, on brochures and other standard products.
- Specialty finishes: soft-touch or velvet lamination, or spot UV that combines matte and gloss, can add a small upcharge.
- Uncoated stock: often the most economical of all.
- Quantity: larger runs lower the per-piece cost regardless of finish.
