A color gamut is the full range of colors a device or process can reproduce. Every screen, printer, and ink set has its own gamut, and the differences explain why a color that glows on your monitor may not be reachable in print.
- The RGB screen gamut is wider than the CMYK print gamut.
- Some bright, saturated on-screen colors fall outside what ink can reproduce.
- Colors beyond the print gamut are shifted to the nearest printable match.
- Designing in CMYK helps you preview results within the achievable range.
