How to place it

A JPG is not a print file. A press wants a PDF at the finished size with the artwork running past the trim, and it wants enough pixels for that size. This makes that PDF, sets the trim and bleed boxes so the press knows where to cut, and tells you the real DPI before you order rather than after.

HEIC from an iPhone is not accepted here because a browser cannot open it. In Photos, export as JPEG first, or turn on Settings, Camera, Formats, Most Compatible.

About the print file converter

A JPG is not a print file. Drop one in, pick what you are printing, and get a PDF at the right size with the bleed built in.

Three things a press wants that a JPG does not have

A page at the finished size, not whatever the camera happened to shoot. Artwork running past the trim so a cut that lands a hair off still finds ink. And a trim box written into the file so the press knows where the cut is meant to be.

This sets all three. The PDF comes out at your size plus the bleed, with the trim and bleed boxes recorded, which is what a prepress operator opens and checks first.

The DPI line is the one that saves money

Enlarging a small photo does not add detail, it adds blur, and the moment to find out is before the order rather than after. The tool works out the real DPI at your chosen size and says plainly whether it clears what that size needs: 300 for anything read in the hand, 150 for large format.

Common questions

Questions about print file converter

Can I convert a HEIC from my iPhone?

Not here, because a browser cannot open HEIC. Export as JPEG in Photos first, or set Settings, Camera, Formats to Most Compatible.

Does it add bleed?

Yes. Set the bleed and the artwork is scaled to run past the trim, with the trim and bleed boxes written into the PDF.

Will it tell me if my photo is too small?

Yes. It shows the real DPI at the size you picked and says whether that clears what the size needs.

Does it convert to CMYK?

No. The PDF stays in the colour of the file you give it. For a colour that has to match, use the colour converter and talk to us before the run.
