Hand Out a Card People Feel Before They Read It

A standard card runs 14pt to 16pt; these start at 32pt and climb to 80pt, which is why the people searching for super thick business cards end up on this page. A client feels the weight before reading a word, and a card that heavy gets turned over in the hand instead of dropped in a drawer, whether you are handing one to a client, dropping it in a leave-behind, or building a set for a whole team. Fifty start at $36.62 and are rated 4.7 out of 5 across 18 reviews.

The stock survives a wallet, a pocket and a year on a desk without curling. To compare the thick card with the rest of the lineup, browse every style on business cards printing, or build yours from the choices below.

A set of 50 starts at $36.62, and the per-card cost keeps sliding as the count climbs toward 10,000. Fifty covers a round of client meetings for one person; cards for a whole sales team or a product launch cost far less per card at the higher tiers. What Are Ultra Thick Business Cards

Ultra thick business cards are heavyweight cards printed full color on extra rigid stock, from 32pt up to a heavy 80pt, in 3 sizes on any of 7 stocks. Buyers order them when a normal card would feel flimsy: executive cards, luxury and premium brands, real estate agents, designers, and restaurants that want the card itself to signal quality. For a side by side on weight, our guide lays out 14pt vs 16pt vs 32pt business cards compared by feel, cost and turnaround. If you want the everyday weight instead, the Standard Business Cards cover that, and the ultra thick sits right beside it as the heavyweight version.

  • Stocks: UltraWhite Uncoated Cover in 32pt, 48pt, 64pt or 80pt, or Gloss Cover in 40pt, 56pt or 72pt.
  • Sizes: 2" x 3.5", 2" x 2" or 1.5" x 3.5", plus a custom size up to 2" x 4".
  • Ink: 4/0 full color front, 4/1 with a black back, or 4/4 full color both sides.
  • Finish: standard finish on every stock.
  • Quantity: 50 to 10,000 cards across 20 tiers.
  • Production: 5 business days standard, with 4-day, 3-day, 2-day, Next-Day and Same-Day speeds.
  • Proof: straight to production, a free online proof, or a next-day hardcopy proof.
  • Artwork: a design template, the online editor, or your own file on the blank template.

How Thick Is Ultra Thick

A point is one thousandth of an inch, so the number on the stock is the caliper. A standard card at 14pt to 16pt measures 0.014 to 0.016 of an inch; the thinnest stock here is already double that, and the thickest is five times it. Here is every point weight this product runs, and something you have already held that measures about the same.

StockCaliperRoughly the thickness of
32pt UltraWhite Uncoated Cover0.032 inTwo standard 16pt cards stacked, or a credit card
40pt Gloss Cover0.040 inTwo and a half standard 16pt cards
48pt UltraWhite Uncoated Cover0.048 inThree standard 16pt cards stacked
56pt Gloss Cover0.056 inThree and a half stacked, about a US dime laid flat
64pt UltraWhite Uncoated Cover0.064 inFour standard 16pt cards stacked, close to a US quarter
72pt Gloss Cover0.072 inFour and a half stacked, close to a US nickel
80pt UltraWhite Uncoated Cover0.080 inFive standard 16pt cards stacked, the thickest card printed here

Read the table as two ladders. UltraWhite Uncoated climbs 32pt, 48pt, 64pt, 80pt and has a soft matte surface that takes a pen. Gloss Cover climbs 40pt, 56pt, 72pt and holds photographic color. Somewhere around 48pt the card stops flexing between finger and thumb and starts behaving like a small board, which is the point where people turn it over in their hand instead of pocketing it. Above 64pt it will not sit comfortably in a slim wallet, so choose it for cards you hand across a table or drop into a package rather than cards a client carries all week.

The Best Thickness for Business Cards

For a card people keep and carry, 32pt to 48pt is the practical range: two to three times a standard 14pt to 16pt card, stiff in the hand, and still slim enough for a wallet at 32pt. Choose 64pt or 80pt when the card is handed across a table or packed into an order, since above 64pt it will not sit comfortably in a slim wallet.

14pt Against 16pt Thickness

16pt is thicker. A point is one thousandth of an inch, so a 14pt card measures 0.014 inch and a 16pt card measures 0.016 inch. Both sit in the standard card range. The thinnest stock on this page, 32pt UltraWhite Uncoated Cover, is twice a 16pt card, and the 80pt UltraWhite is five times it.

What Size Should an Ultra Thick Business Card Be

Pick the size by how much you need to say. The standard 2" x 3.5" is the wallet shape everyone recognizes, now built thick enough to feel like a tile. A 2" x 2" square reads modern and holds a logo, a handle and a QR code with room to spare. The slim 1.5" x 3.5" is the narrow, minimalist cut. If none of those is exact, set a custom size up to 2" x 4". The specs panel below lists all 3 sizes and the full stock list. For the same heavy stock with a pearlescent face, the Ultra Thick Metallic Pearl Business Cards are another premium pick.

Three choices decide how an ultra thick card feels and reads.

Pick the thickness that fits the moment

The 32pt UltraWhite Uncoated Cover already feels twice as substantial as a normal card, and the 80pt reads like a chip in the hand. Step through 48pt and 64pt for the middle ground, or choose the 40pt, 56pt and 72pt Gloss Cover when you want a smoother, coated face with the same heavy build. When you want a natural, tactile stock at the same thickness, the Ultra Thick Kraft Business Cards carry the idea onto a warm kraft face.

Use both sides

A card this thick has room to work on both faces. Print full color on the front with a blank or black back, or go full color on both sides, so the back carries a QR code, a map, hours, or a second design instead of sitting empty. You set the ink coverage when you order, and the total changes with it.

Design it without a designer

Start from one of thousands of free, professionally built layouts in our business card design templates. On a card this heavy, one logo and a name with open space around them read better than a crowded layout, so cut the copy to what a client needs to reach you.

If your artwork is ready, skip the editor and download a press-ready blank instead. Each blank business card template is built at the real trim size with the 1/8" bleed and safe margin already drawn in, so your design stays clear of the cut. Pick the size that matches your order below, place your art, and upload.

How Much Do Ultra Thick Business Cards Cost

Ultra thick business cards start at $36.62 per 50, about 73 cents a card, and the per-card price keeps dropping as the quantity climbs toward 10,000, so the run size sets the per-card price. A set of 400 runs $163.33, 3,000 come to $413.78 at about 14 cents a card, and 10,000 land at $1,003.53, near 10 cents each. Count the people you meet in a quarter, multiply by the staff who hand cards out, and drag the slider below to see the total and the per-card cost at that number.

Can You Print Full Color on Both Sides

Yes. You choose your ink coverage in three steps. 4/0 prints full color on the front with a blank back, the cleanest and cheapest option. 4/1 adds black ink on the back for a phone number, an address or fine print. 4/4 prints full color on both sides, so the whole card, front and back, carries your design. Every stock ships with the standard finish, so the choice that matters most is the thickness and the coverage. Pair 4/4 with an 80pt stock for a card that carries a full design on both faces of a small board.

Design Guidelines for Ultra Thick Cards

Set the artwork up like any card, with one difference: at this caliper the edge is a third visible surface and the eye goes straight to it.

  • Bleed: extend any background color or image 1/8 inch past the trim line on all four sides, so the cut never exposes a white sliver on a dark card.
  • Safe zone: keep type, logos and anything you cannot afford to lose 1/8 inch inside the trim line. On the 2" x 2" square and the slim 1.5" x 3.5" that margin takes a bigger share of the card, so plan the layout tighter from the start.
  • Borders: a thin even frame is the riskiest thing you can put on a thick card. Cutting heavy stock allows a hair of movement, and a border shows it as one side thicker than the other. Either drop the frame, or make it wide enough that a small shift is invisible.
  • The edge itself: a heavy multi-ply card shows its build as a fine layered line all the way round, which is part of why the card reads as substantial. Colored or painted edge treatments are a separate option and are not offered on every stock, so confirm what is available for the point weight you have chosen in the options above before you design around a colored edge.
  • Ink coverage: on uncoated UltraWhite a solid dark flood shows every handling mark, and on Gloss Cover it shows fingerprints. If the design is a full dark background, expect the card to look best straight out of the box and design the back lighter.

What Ultra Thick Cards Cost to Mail

Thickness is not the only thing carriers price on. Weight and rigidity matter as much, and both climb fast on this stock: a stack of a hundred cards at 80pt stands five times as tall as the same hundred at 16pt, and the weight moves with it, which is enough to push a padded mailer into the next weight step and enough to make a large run ship as a heavier box.

If the cards are going into the mail rather than into a hand, two things are worth doing before you order. Check the current letter thickness and flexibility limits with the carrier you use, because a rigid card can be rated as a parcel rather than a letter even when it fits the envelope. Then weigh the whole piece, card plus envelope plus anything else going in, rather than the card alone.

The pattern most buyers land on: ultra thick for cards handed over in person, tucked into a shipped order or included in a leave-behind where the weight is the message, and a standard 14pt or 16pt card for anything mailed at volume.
