Send a 4th of July Postcard People Actually Keep
A firework-splashed card in the mailbox does something a plain flyer can't: it tells the whole block the cookout, the sale, or the Independence Day greeting is on its way before the weekend even starts.
A holiday postcard costs the same to print as a standard postcard and goes out with no envelope to open.
A mailing to 300 homes costs $38.45, about 13 cents a card, against 33 cents each in a set of 50, so a full holiday mailing costs far less per card than a quick test batch.
What Are 4th of July Postcards
4th of July postcards are full-color cards printed for Independence Day. They carry the jobs a plain flyer would lose: mailed holiday greetings, cookout and fireworks-party invites, Independence Day sale announcements, coupons, and save-the-dates. Because the design and the trim are yours, one postcard covers the invitation, the promotion, and the reminder for the same weekend.
The same cards run all year without the holiday theme as Standard Postcards.
4th of July postcard designs you can customize
Here are ten directions to start from, each a layout you change rather than a fixed design. Build on one with the postcard design templates further down this page, or take a blank template if your own artwork is ready.
- Flag field. Stars and stripes filling the front with the message reversed out of the blue canton. The classic, and the one that reads fastest from a mailbox.
- Fireworks over a skyline. Full bleed photo on the front, offer on the back. Order it on a gloss stock so the burst keeps its saturation.
- Cookout invitation. Date, time and address set large over a picnic table photo, with a line for the RSVP number.
- Parade and event announcement. Route or schedule on the back, one strong image on the front, ideal at the larger sizes.
- Independence Day sale. A single percentage or dollar figure at the size of a fist, the terms and the expiry date underneath.
- Vintage americana. Muted reds and blues, aged type, a bunting border. Print it on uncoated or recycled and it reads like a card from a drawer.
- Minimal star. One star or one firework line drawing on a plain field, with a small block of type. This is the design that suits metallic pearl stock.
- Photo mosaic. Six or eight images from last year's event tiled across the front, with this year's date on top.
- Patriotic thank you. A flag and a single line for veterans, first responders or staff, printed one sided so the back stays free for a handwritten note.
- Kraft and bunting. Line art bunting printed on recycled kraft, warm rather than glossy, for a farm stand or a small town business.
Whichever direction you start from, set the type before the artwork. Every one of these designs still has to carry a date, a place and one call to action that reads at arm's length.
Mailing your 4th of July postcards
A postcard is the one printed piece that goes into the mail with no envelope, which is exactly why it gets read. You address and stamp the cards yourself after they arrive, which suits a short list and a card you also hand out at the counter; for a longer list, the variable data option further down prints each address on its card.
Size drives postage. The smaller cards in the range can qualify for the USPS postcard rate, while the larger ones, including the 6" x 11", are billed as letters or flats. That difference multiplies across a run of several thousand, so check the current USPS size limits and rates against your chosen size before you approve the proof.
Then work backwards from the 4th: production time, mail transit on top of that, plus the time it takes you to address the run. Giving yourself a clear two weeks between placing the order and the holiday is what keeps a July 4th card from landing on July 6th.
What Size and Shape Should a 4th of July Postcard Be
Size follows the job. A 2.5" x 2.5" square works as a gift-bag tag or a small thank-you, a 3" x 4" or 4" x 4" gives an invite room for a date, a time and an address, and the 6" x 11" end reads like a full mailer with space for a sale message and a coupon. If you want softer edges, add rounded corners at a 1/8" or 3/8" radius. The spec panel below lists all 14 sizes and both corner styles.
For a metallic upgrade on the same shapes, the Metallic Foil Postcards add real foil, and the pocket-sized Mini Cards are another small-format pick.
Pick a layout in our postcard design templates, then set the date, the offer and the photo in the online editor. On the 2.5" x 2.5" and 3" x 3" sizes, one flag, firework or star fills the card; save the photo layouts for 4" x 6" and up.
Building the card in your own software? The blank 4th of July postcard template for each size carries the 1/8" bleed and the safe margin, so a flag field or a firework can run to the edge without losing the type.
Wally waves the flag on a postcard that gets kept
Why a $16.48 stack of 4th of July postcards lands in the mail, not the recycling.

Fifty 4th of July postcards cost $16.48, about a third of a dollar each, and print in full color on 22 stocks. Mail them as party invites, holiday greetings, or a red-white-and-blue sale. Pick a size, set your speed, and Wally gets them in hands before the fireworks.
If the cards are being handed out at a stand, a parade or a counter, ignore postage entirely and choose the size that gets picked up.
What Paper Stocks and Finishes Can You Choose
A postcard does not have to feel flimsy. The stock list runs 22 deep. Start with everyday 14pt and 16pt gloss cover for a bright photo, or matte and uncoated stocks, including 30 percent and 100 percent recycled options, that take a pen for a handwritten note. White linen adds a woven texture, and the metallic pearl stocks in ice, champagne, silver and gold carry a pearl shimmer that suits fireworks and star artwork. Want more heft? A 24pt ultra-thick gloss or a 26pt metallic pearl gives the card real presence, and 15pt synthetic plastic or 18pt rigid PVC shrugs off a rainy mailbox.
For finishes you pick Standard or a High Gloss UV Coating that makes red, white and blue pop, and you set ink coverage to 4/0 front only, 4/1 front plus black back, or 4/4 full color on both sides.
How Much Do 4th of July Postcards Cost
An 800-card run is $73.60 and 7,000 come to $176.61, about 2.5 cents apiece.
Enter your mailing count on the slider below for its total and the cost of each card.
Can You Print a Name or Code on Each Postcard
Yes. Turn on variable data and you can drop a unique name, a coupon code or a mailing address onto every postcard in the run, so each one ships personalized instead of identical. That turns a 4th of July postcard into a numbered coupon, a save-the-date with a real recipient, or a mailer addressed to your whole list.
Choose the Variable Data option and upload a spreadsheet that maps one row per card. Pair it with full color on both sides and a finish that fits, and a single postcard starts doing the work of a full mailing.
How Do 4th of July Postcards Compare to Other Postcards
4th of July postcards are the seasonal pick. The comparison below puts them beside mini, magnet and black postcards with the starting price of each.
How Fast Can You Get 4th of July Postcards
4th of July postcards print on a 3 business day standard turnaround, and when the holiday sneaks up you can move that to 2-day, Next-Day or even Same-Day production.
