Question

What happens to bleed marks that are visible in my online proof?

Answer

Bleed marks and colored outlines that appear in your online proof are part of the setup, not the final product. They mark the area that extends past the trim line and are cut away during finishing, so they will not show on your printed pieces.

  • Bleed is the extra margin of artwork that runs beyond the cut line so there are no white edges after trimming.
  • The colored outline or crop marks you see in the proof indicate where the blade will cut.
  • During finishing, the excess is trimmed off and those marks disappear along with it.
  • If a mark sits inside the trim line rather than outside it, that can signal a setup issue worth a second look.

If you are unsure whether a mark will be cut away, or if your order has already entered production, check with 4OVER4 support before approving so the layout can be confirmed.
