When you originally place an order and choose PayPal, the amount is preauthorized, which means the funds are held rather than fully charged right away.
- At order time, PayPal places a hold (preauthorization) on the order amount
- If you cancel, that hold is released instead of being processed as a completed charge
- It can take a few days for PayPal or your bank to release the held funds back to you
