Which should I adjust first - tracking or kerning?

Set tracking first, then kern. Working in that order keeps your fine adjustments from being wiped out.

• Start with tracking to establish the overall spacing tone across the word, line, or block.
• Then kern the individual pairs that still look uneven, such as AV, To, or Wa.
• Avoid changing tracking after kerning, since a global shift undoes your manual pair fixes.
• Review everything at the actual print size before you finalize.
