What is a window cling and how is it printed?

A window cling is a thin film that sticks to glass using static or light adhesion instead of permanent glue, so it can be applied, removed, and often repositioned without leaving residue. It is a popular way to add promotions, hours, or seasonal graphics to storefront and vehicle windows.

• Reverse (second-surface) printing: the design is printed mirrored so it reads correctly from outside when the cling is applied to the inside of the glass.
• White ink: used as a spot layer or backing to add opacity on clear film, which keeps colors from looking washed out over a bright background.
• Clear vs white film: clear lets the view show through, while white gives a solid, high-contrast base.

Mounting on the inside of the glass protects the print from weather and wear, which is why interior application with reverse printing is common for storefronts.
